Walks - Encountering Livestock

When encountering fields containing animals it is not advisable to enter. If you are in a field and discover animals, you MUST leave the field as soon as possible through the nearest exit.

During the lambing season you must never allow your dog near the ewes or lambs, as this may cause the ewes to reject their young.

It is part of the Outdoor Access Code to observe specific instructions related to different types of livestock, but the above instructions cover all types.

If your walk causes you to encounter these areas and there is now way forward without following this rule, it is sufficient to say that your walk is over and you must turn back.

Most livestock issues are encountered in spring, so be prepared to adjust your itinerary accordingly.
